General Information

Infant mortality continues to be a priority for our community. The U.S. infant mortality rate is among the highest in the industrialized world. Although the infant mortality rate in Kent County has decreased during the past decade, the disparity in rates of infant mortality between white infants and African American infants is a priority concern.

Early and regular prenatal care helps women have healthier babies, but many mothers do not receive the care they need. Removing barriers to prenatal care, and making sure families use existing supportive health services – immunization, WIC, maternal and infant support services – can increase good birth and child health outcomes.
